The Michaelmas Fayre originated in the Medieval times to celebrate the end and new beginning of the Agricultural Season (October to October) for hiring new workers. Borne out of the time after the Black Death, where labour was short; the fayre bought trade and a range of skilled craftsmen and labourers with their families from the surrounding districts, looking for the next years income. Linked also to the Christian calendar with the ‘Michaelmas Feast’ which celebrates St Michael the Archangel, on the 29th September. The Medieval Fayre cheered the agricultural success of the year, with seasonal foods, plentiful ale, and music and performances.
Let the Celebrations Commence……!
