Dr Wright Historic Myth Busting Talk
February 24 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
We are delighted to welcome Dr James Wright; building’s archaeologist & broadcaster/presenter on Channel 4’s The Great British Dig and BBC Radio 4’s The Hidden History Of…… as well as appearances on Time Team, Mystic Britain, and Discovery Science channel ‘Unearthed’.
To promote Dr Wright’s recently launched book ‘Historic Building Mythbusting’ James has been on a three legged tour around our Island giving a hilarious talk that picks over commonly believed and repeated tales about ancient buildings; delving into each well-worn story to investigate whether they are true or indeed a myth!
Dr Wright will be giving a talk here at The Hospital of St Cross, in one of our most stunning medieval buildings; The Brethren’s Hall. The Hospital buildings are also mentioned in James’ book.
Dr Wright offers perspectives on yarns such as ship timbers in old buildings, spiral staircases twisting clockwise to advantage right-handed defenders, claims to be the oldest pub in the country (groan…. again) and secret passages beneath the landscape. (We have many stories and myths to bust here too)
Included in the ticket price will be a pre-talk warming alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverage plus medieval snack, to gear you up for a cracking evening in the most atmospheric of architectural surroundings!
