Tower Tours
THE HOSPITAL OF ST CROSS CHAPEL TOWER TOURS
SUMMARY:
The Tower Tour at St Cross presents a unique opportunity to explore some of the secret and hidden parts of the fabric of the chapel that are not usually seen by the public. It lasts for between one and a half and two hours, and includes a walk along the parapet of the tower, weather permitting.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
This is just as much of an adventure as a fascinating historical experience, and is really only suitable for the sure-footed. You need to be prepared for cobwebs, dust, uneven spiral staircases, irregular surfaces to walk on, exposed walkways, gloomy passages, low doorways, beams to clamber over, open staircases to climb and hatches to squeeze through.
FITNESS LEVEL:
This tour is therefore unsuitable for those who are very elderly, infirm or disabled. It may also be unsuitable for anyone suffering from heart or respiratory disorders, vertigo or any medical condition which could be affected by the climb. Please note the difficulty of the climb from the pictures. The stairs are spiral and narrow with no hand rails, If you feel you can’t step backwards through a low door on to a ladder then you will be unable to experience the walk around the parapet.
Please Note: This Tour is only suitable for those 12 years & Over
