This winter, The Three Inch Fools return to the Hospital of St Cross with a magical new stage production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.
On a bitterly cold Christmas Eve, the clock strikes midnight and Ebenezer Scrooge receives the first of a series of otherworldly visitors. Forced to confront his past, present and the future that awaits him, can this most miserly of men change his fate before it is too late?
Blending illusion, live music and spine-tingling storytelling, The Three Inch Fools bring Dickens’ great supernatural tale vividly to life, embracing all the ghosts, darkness and strange happenings that have made A Christmas Carol such an enduring part of Christmas.
And there can be few better places to encounter it than St Cross after dark.
The Three Inch Fools are no strangers to performing in extraordinary historic surroundings. Since launching in 2015, the touring company has performed at more than 200 venues across the UK, becoming known for imaginative, musically driven productions that make full use of the character and atmosphere of the places in which they perform.
After celebrating their tenth anniversary in 2025, A Christmas Carol marks their first ever Christmas touring production – swapping their familiar summer adventures for something altogether more intimate, wintry and ghostly.
At its heart, of course, this is also a story of hope, redemption and discovering that it is never quite too late to change.
Whether Dickens at Christmas is already a firmly established tradition or you simply fancy an atmospheric evening of storytelling in one of Winchester’s most remarkable historic places, wrap up warm and join us.

The performance lasts approximately 100 minutes, plus a 20-minute interval, and is recommended for ages 8+. Please note that the production contains supernatural themes, moments of darkness and sudden sound and lighting effects.
