Vox Humana & Gregoriana at the Hospital of St Cross
Step into the remarkable surroundings of the Hospital of St Cross for an evening exploring centuries of sacred music.
Vox Humana & Gregoriana present a programme reaching from the first millennium into the early years of the second, including music by St Kassia and St Hildegard, alongside anonymous works and music by Chilcott-Monk.
Particularly fitting for a performance here in Winchester, the evening will include music from the 10th-century Winchester Troper, as well as music drawn from 13th-century fragments associated with Fountains Abbey and Worcester Cathedral. There will also be a brief exploration of the evolution of musical instruments before the programme moves onwards to later motets.
It promises to be an atmospheric journey through the development of sacred music – heard within surroundings that have their own long connection with worship, community and musical tradition.
The performance is directed by Julien Chilcott-Monk, with soloists Elizabeth Barlow, Wendy Allen and Lucy Loydell.
